TONY MOORE

President

Tony has been an Avondale resident over 20 years where he and his wife Deborah raised their 3 sons who have all graduated from college. After retiring from General Electric Tony started and has maintained for over 20 years his business the Avondale Mart, located at 533 Ridgeway Avenue. Tony received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Business. As a business owner himself, Tony would like to see more business leaders and entrepreneurs utilize their talents to develop and propel the community.

SHEILA HOLMES HOWARD

Vice President

Sheila was appointed to the ACC board in 2006. She and her husband Greg have seen tremendous growth in Avondale in their 18 years as residents and homeowners. Sheila is a REALTOR®, with 34 years of experience assisting buyers, sellers and investors. Sheila is the President of Avondale’s Avenue District Block Club, which hosts the Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, serving over 1000 families in the community. She sees Avondale as a future destination where people want to live, work, worship, and volunteer because of the wide variety of quality living and activities.

TERRESA ADAMS

Treasurer

Terresa has served on the ACC Board since 2005, currently serving as Treasurer and former Chairperson of the Finance Committee. Her strong financial background has been an asset to the ACC as we developed procedures and budgets for the Avondale Business Center. Terresa recently completed course work toward her Doctoral Degree from Union Bethel Institute. She accepted her current role because her church, Manifested Glory Ministries located in Avondale, allowing her to become more involved with the community. Terresa has served on numerous not-for-profit boards, Terresa strives to make a difference in implementing our vision of a vibrant and thriving African American community.

JENNIFER FOSTER

Secretary

Jennifer Foster is a proud Avondale resident, mother, grandmother and community leader. With a working background in carpentry and construction, she gained valuable knowledge and self-employment. Now as a retiree, she works in the community, passionately serving to help young mothers in the community. She has volunteered with several esteemed organizations in Avondale, including Avondale Development Corporation, Closing the Health Gap and The Community Builders. In her role as a Health Champion, she is a mentor, working to connect young families to needed resources for their children. Jennifer is an also

an avid runner and member of the Avondale Running Club and she played football for the National Women's Football Association.

CARLA BUTLER

Board Member & Finance Committee Chairman

Carla started attending Avondale Community Council meetings in 2000 to get involved. She found a passion working with Avondale seniors through the So-Act organization. Conversations with seniors inspired her to research her family tree and travel around the county to meet long lost family members. She has worked at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Xavier University Athletics, ACC Community Organizer, and Executive Director of Wesley Education Center. Carla’s second home is Negril, Jamaica. She visits yearly, her love of children motives her and friends to hold fundraisers for school supplies for their adopted school. Carla has a B.A. in Psychology from Wilberforce University and a M.Ed. from Xavier University. She and her sister own a travel agency called Cruise Planners.

KAYA BURGIN

Board Member

Kaya’s family has lived in the Avondale neighborhood over 60 years. Kaya is the Mid-Size Branch Manager at Avondale Branch Library. Kaya is passionate about the role libraries play enriching their communities. Kaya received her Bachelor of Arts in History and Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Kaya is excited to be working in Avondale and serve on the ACC board.

TAMIKA TURNER-DOUGLAS

Board Member

Tamika has been a resident of Avondale her entire life. She is an entrepreneur.  She loves her community and is looking forward to serving on the ACC Board working toward improving the lives of our residents. Family and community mean a lot to her which is why she chooses live and raise her children in Avondale.

TOMMY NEIL

Board Member

Tommy was appointed to the ACC Board in 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Applied Science with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Tommy has lived in Avondale over 22 years and retired from Belcan Engineering in 2018. Tommy is also a member of the Avondale 29 Group, a coalition of residents and homeowners committed to enhancing and improving the quality of life in Avondale and to "Making Avondale a Most Livable Community.

RODNEY DOUGLAS

Board Member

Rodney is a lifelong resident of Avondale. He grew up on Jay Street. Rodney and his wife love to cook and cater delicious food. The vision he has for Avondale is for Legend residents who have lived here and are the cornerstones and historical pillars of the community to be able to remain in the neighborhood and enjoy the revitalization. He feels it is important to work so all will be uplifted as the community improves.

NIKITA ANDERSON

Board Member

Nikita is active in community engagement work and has worked her way upward for several local companies gaining first hand experience on how to help residents become self-sufficient and enjoyable for residents. She is Mother of 5 fabulous children.

DOMINIQUE TAPPLAR

Board Member

Dominque joined the ACC board to align himself with an organization that has a focus on community empowerment and progression while improving the quality of life for those it serves. Dominique is a graduate of Brown Mackie College. His small business demands excellent time management, communication, leadership and customer service skills.

ENNIS TAIT

Board Member

Pastor, Servant Leader, Social Justice Activist whose purpose is to help to rebuild people. Using a multi-faceted community engagement approach, his works connect the needs of the community with the resources of the Kingdom to bring forth sustainable change. Pastor Tait is looking forward to continuing to serve Avondale residents as a member of the ACC Board.

RUSSELL HAIRSTON

Board Member

Russ is Executive Director of the Avondale Development Corporation. He is a former Housing Division Manager with the City of Cincinnati. During his time with the City, Mr. Hairston led award-winning public-private Cincinnati neighborhood transformations. Russ is President of RH Consulting LLC, which specializes in public-private partnerships (P3’s) that result in catalytic community development. He is an expert in community engagement and neighborhood transformation. He holds a Master’s Degree in Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning (DAAP). He is passionate about improving the human potential, public policies and physical environments of communities. He lives in Clifton

with his wife, Julia.

PATRICIA MILTON

Former President

Patricia served as President of the ACC from 2005-2019 and served on the board for 4 years prior. Patricia worked to make sure residents were included in the decision making of the development projects in the community. Under her leadership, the Avondale Development Corporation was born, the ACC was granted a $29.5 Million HUD Choice neighborhoods grant and many more notable accomplishments. Patricia is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati Design, Architecture, Art and Planning and worked many years as an Interior Designer. Patricia also specializes in writing curriculum and training future community leaders, as her passion is Community Engagement.

CHRISTOPHER HEATER

Former Vice President

Christopher is a longtime resident of Avondale, graduate of Walnut Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati with a BA in African Studies. He worships at Rockdale Baptist Church and he and wife Aungelique are proud parents of three children. He personally enjoys seeing organizations that are focused on community uplift and progress. He is working to help Avondale function effectively as a Spiritual, Communal, Commercial and Academic bright spot in the city.

CHARLES HOUSTON

Former Board Member

Charles was a seasoned Human Services, Crime Prevention Manager Specialist with a diverse background in Criminal Justice, Education, Law Enforcement and Guidance Counseling. He worked with diverse client populations and was accustomed to managing multiple projects and working autonomously or with groups. Charles brought to the Avondale Community Council a strong ability for problem solving methodology with the ability to maintain positive community and workforce relationships.

RONALD C. JACKSON

Former Board Member

In Memorandum May 2021

Ronald was an Avondale resident and a member of the Beechwood Resident Council. Ron graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Marketing. He worked with City Council to create programs that benefited Avondale residents. He was responsible for getting the City to install a crosswalk on Forest Avenue, keeping Metro Route 46 service to Findlay Market and the first Avondale Day at the Great American Ball Park where over 300 Avondale residents attended a baseball game.

LINDA MAYFIELD

Former Board Member

Linda has resided in Avondale for over 24s years. She decided it was time to “do something,” to become involved and serve in working toward the enhancement, growth and renaissance needed to make the Avondale community more welcoming and vibrant. Linda spent 33+ years working for the City of Cincinnati prior to joining the ACC.

MICHELLE TAYLOR-MITCHELL

Former Board Member

In Memorandum November 24, 1950 - June 30, 2021

Michelle was a resident of Avondale for over 40 years. She graduated from University of Cincinnati in 1976 with a degree in Social Work. Michelle previously served as an ACC board member (1996-2005). She is a member of the Contact Center, Cincinnati Black United Front, Coalition for a Just Cincinnati and the Community Police Partnering Center. During her tenure she worked to make Avondale a safe and vibrant place where safety was a priority.

SANDRA JONES-MITCHELL

Former President

Sandra was elected and served as President of the ACC 2019-2021. Her passion is to advocate for older adults to maintain their independence. Avondale has the second largest senior population in Cincinnati and our seniors are a vital part of the community. In 1986, she worked in a nursing home in the Avondale Community as an Activity Coordinator. In 1993, she co-founded Serving Older Adults through Changing Times (SO-ACT). Her love for older adults had a major impact on her returning to The College of Mount Saint Joseph to earn a Bachelor’s in Gerontology in 2003.

KELLY D. ROBINSON

Former Board Member

Kelly served on the ACC Board over 9 years. She is the Owner and Lead Planner of Kelly D. Robinson LLC which specializes in corporate meeting and event management.  She is passionate about giving back to her community and is engaged as a volunteer with several organizations. She is also a board member of the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. Kelly earned a B.S. in Broadcasting from Belmont University and a M.A. in Television, Radio & Film from Syracuse University. Kelly is a certified Meeting Professional (CMP)

CRYSTAL DAVIS, M.Ed.

Former Board Member

Crystal is an entrepreneur, community educator, mentor to students and families, 15 years as a not-for-profit professional, and with a brief stint as an engineer. Her experience is to show genuine love and care to people, in return they will demonstrate great citizenship, leadership and care for others.

MICHAEL ELLSWORTH

Former Board Member

Entrepreneur, husband, father and longtime Avondale resident and activist.

DERRICK J. SMITH SR.

Former Board Member

Is the Senior Pastor of Manifested Glory Ministries, married to Eloise J Smith for 31 years. He holds a Bachelor Degree of Science, from the University of Cincinnati; Masters of Religion from The Cincinnati Christian University Theological Biblical Seminary; Masters of Business Administration from The Keller’s Graduate School of Management. And a Doctoral Degree in Theology and Doctoral Degree in Divinity; from Christ Temple Bible College. Dr. Smith is also a business college professor and currently is working in financial management for one of the largest regional banks in Ohio. Dr. Derrick is currently involved in numerous community related causes, such as Injury Prevention Awareness, Mental Health Awareness, Business Development, Entrepreneurship Training, Fair Housing, Education, Community Activism, eliminating Financial Illiteracy and holds several community board offices.
